Reactivation Policy

This policy explains when DMV Protect reactivation fees apply, when they do not apply, how fees are calculated, and how identity matching affects reactivation routing.

Last updated: May 18, 2026

When Reactivation Fee Applies

  • A reactivation fee applies only when all required conditions are true.
  • The driver previously submitted or claimed at least one covered ticket/citation under DMV Protect coverage.
  • The driver later closed the account, cancelled the subscription, or became inactive/closed under DMV Protect account rules.
  • The same driver later tries to open a new account, reactivate the closed account, or restart DMV Protect service.

Default Reactivation Fee Rules

  • If the previous account was a monthly subscriber account, the default reactivation fee is $300 upfront unless DMV Protect approves an exception.
  • If the previous account was an annual subscriber account, the default reactivation fee is 25% of the annual plan price unless DMV Protect approves an exception.
  • The fee amount is based on the driver's previous subscription type, not necessarily the new billing cadence the driver chooses after reactivation.

When Reactivation Fee Does Not Apply

  • No reactivation fee applies if the driver never submitted or claimed a covered ticket/citation.
  • No reactivation fee applies for normal active accounts.
  • No reactivation fee applies only because the driver updates profile details, payment details, subscription details, claim details, phone, email, driver license number, name, or date of birth.
  • No reactivation fee applies solely because the driver browses public pages, joins the Notify Me list, or uses public paid-lawyer search.

Account Status Conditions

  • Reactivation applies to accounts with closed, cancelled, or inactive/closed status when prior covered claim activity exists.
  • If a matched account is active, the user should be directed to login or account recovery rather than reactivation.
  • If conflicting records are found, the account may require DMV Protect identity review before reactivation decisions are finalized.

After Reactivation

  • After paying the applicable reactivation fee, the driver may choose monthly or annual billing for new or reactivated service where offered.
  • The reactivated account must still satisfy plan eligibility, payment, identity, and covered ticket/citation policy requirements.
  • Reactivation does not guarantee future claim approval or legal outcome.

Review and Exceptions

  • Reactivation questions or exception requests may require review by DMV Protect.
  • DMV Protect may request supporting information before resolving a reactivation question.
  • Alex may explain reactivation rules and guide users to the correct workflow, but Alex cannot waive, charge, approve, or deny reactivation fees alone.
